South Caradon Mine with CHAHP Project Officer Iain Rowe (in association with the Southeast Cornwall Walking Festival). Find out about this fascinating site which has more legal protection than Stonehenge due to a unique ecology that has been shaped by what was once one of Cornwall ’s greatest mines. Learn also about the CHAHP funded stabilisation work. Wear stout footwear & bring waterproofs, some steep and slippery traverses. 10am until around 1pm. Meet outside Minions Post Office.

21st September 5-9.30pm BioBlitz at Pentilly, near Saltash. An evening bug hunt, moth trapping and bat walks.
22nd September 10am-3pm Bioblitz at Pentilly, near Saltash Bird spotting, pond dipping, bug hunting, wildflower walks and fun for all .

Walking For Health Meeting
Pensilva Health Centre, Wednesday 18th July, 7:30pm. Come along whatever your walking ability & help Pensilva & Liskeard Health Centres, who working with CHAHP are looking to set-up Walking for Health Events locally for all ages and abilities. Free training may also be available for those who wish to lead walks and/or organise their own events.
Caradon Archaeology - Inaugural AGM
Stuart House, Thursday 19th July 7:30pm. In partnership with CHAHP and Cornwall Archaeological Society, a group will be formed to monitor the condition of Scheduled Ancient Monuments, as well as organise a series of events, including family and child friendly ones, organise training days and carry out archaeological and historic research in and around the old Caradon Council district. Everyone welcome!

Exhibition in the Dissenters Cemetery Chapel (next to the primary school), St. Cleer Saturday 21st July – A great opportunity to have a peek inside the Chapel and the history of this fascinating cemetery founded during the mining boom by, and for, those who attended the multitude of chapels in the area.

Pensilva History Group - Village Walk – St. Ive Parish
Walk round the older parts of Pensilva with the village history group. The walk will last about and hour and a half and will take in some of the lanes in the Middle Hill area. We will stop at times along the way to learn some of the village history. Meet in the foyer of Millenium House at 7.15pm on Wendesday 25th July 2012

Caradon Archaeology / Festival of British Archaeology Event – North Hill Parish
Saturday 28th July 2012 - East Moor. Spend a day in this beautiful, remote and unfrequented part of Bodmin Moor. The East Moor is rich in Bronze Age and Medieval History and contains one of the most attractive stone circles on the entire Moor. Join Angus Holland for a day's hike amongst stunning scenery.
Meet at 9:15am at the Heritage Centre Car Park, to car share to the start point. Walk will last approx 5 hours.
Bring a packed lunch and wear suitable footwear and clothing for sometimes rough and uneven terrain.
Rilla Mill & Rillaton Walk
Sunday 29th July 2012, Rilla Mill Village Hall – Sunday 29th July 2pm -4:40pm. Join Mike Todd on a stroll around and about these historical settlements on the River Lyhner, please wear suitable footwear and clothing for sometimes rough and uneven terrain.

Village People – Liskeard Parish

Exhibitions by the village and parish historians who live or work within the Caradon Hill area about their own settlements.
There will be exhibits about the past lives, industries and associated structures of those who lived in and around Darite, Linkinhorne, Moorswater, North Hill, Pensilva and St. Neot
There will also be an exhibition at The Liskerrett Centre, by those who live and work in the area, about how they interpret these locations today.
Digital Moorswater
John Rapson’s collection of Moorswater pictures taken before the Liskeard by-pass was started in the 1970’s are a unique reminder of what approaching Liskeard from the west was like. These and many other photographs from the collection have been added to History Pin, a new an exciting way to share, view or comment upon images of Britain . This collection can be viewed online in the reception of Stuart House during the stay of the exhibition or can be viewed at home at: www.historypin.com & click on “EXPLORE THE MAP” & in the “Search For Place” box enter Liskeard.
The History of Moorswater - Liskeard Parish
(In association with Caradon Hill Area Heritage Project)

A guided walk to look at what is left of this fascinating and historic area. From Medieval, pilgrimage shrine and baptistery, through to virtually every aspect of the industrial revolution this often-overlooked settlement had it all!
Meet & return to Stuart House.
Those who wish to join the walk, but would like to meet us at the bottom of the valley, meet us at 10:30 by the entrance to Moorswater Lodge at the bottom of Old Road.
Organised by: Stuart House Heritage Group and open to all.

‘An Introduction to South Caradon' Once the greatest mine east of Truro, the remains of South Caradon still offer plenty to see. Join Blue Badge Guide Mark Camp for a walk amongst the ruins, scratching at the surface rather than delving deep into the technical stuff. Walk will last approx 3 hours, please bring a drink
Wear suitable footwear and clothing for uneven terrain.

Dormouse volunteer day
200 dormouse boxes were installed across 8 sites within the Project area on 5th March by 30 volunteers who spent a busy day wiring the boxes to suitable trees.
Over the next few years the boxes will be monitored by local nature groups promoted by the Project and it is to be hoped that the dormice will find and benefit from their new homes.

Winter Bird Walk
A guided walk around Siblyback Reservoir with Dave Conway to see and identify the winter birds.
SATURDAY 14th JANUARY
OPEN TO ALL
Please meet at 14:00hrs in the pay & display car park for a circular walk around the reservoir to finish by 16:30hrs.
We are also seeking additional volunteers to join our local group when they install the Pied Flycatcher bird boxes at Golitha NNR later this month.
